Bigger tires and gearing
I was just wondering what the effect would be if I go from 265/70/17 to a 285/75/17. I'd like to fill out the wheel well a little better and get a more aggressive tread. What I don't want to do is harm my truck. I don't know what gears my truck has, is there anywhere to tell. I do know that at 120kph the truck runs just over 2100 RPM. Any help would be great. Thanks Guys.

I'm quite sure you won't need to regear for that small of a change. Someone will be by soon to confirm this. If not, ask Wandell, he's the tire guy:bows: :rocker:

I think he means 285/70-17, which is only an inch taller than his OEM tires. I doubt you will have to regear with 285's. If you have a V6, or tow or haul heavy loads regularly you may want to.

Thanks guys, my truck has the 5.4 and I've the hypertech power tuning. I occasional haul a trailer but usually just a snowmobile or other light stuff. I did mean 285/70/17 but I'd like to put the largest tire on that I can without damaging my truck. I also have a '97 that I had to do the tranny on and it cost me $2500 to fix, which I'd rater spend on accessories that repairs. Thanks again for all your help.
