315s on factory 17x7.5
Will this set-up work on my 99 with a 3" lift.

imo, a 315 is way too wide for a 7.5" wheel. not gonna be safe

casper99 - it is debatable as to whether it will work or not. I assume you have selected your tire as some are a true 35 and some are not. I know that there are other members that say yes to this but I will say that you will have rub especially on the lower valance of the front bumper. I am running Parnelli Dirt Grips 35x12.50x16 with a 3" body and torsion key lifts to achieve this.
You may be ok as the 7.5 rim will not allow the tire to get it's full width assuming you are looking at 12.50's. just my 2 cents Good Luck!!!:D |
Yes, they will work. I've seen several people run 315/70-17's on stock 4x4's by using the stock 17x7.5 inch wheels. Most say they have minor rubbing on the frame at full steering lock. This is a product of the 7.5 inch wheels. When you go to a wider wheel, the rubbing on the frame stops but it pushes the tire out where it then touches the front bumper's lower plastic valance. As stated, a 7.5 inch wheel is slightly narrower than recommended for a 315mm wide (12.50 section width) tire but it is far from unsafe. Most tire manufactures recommend an 8 to 10 inch wide wheel for that size. Running a tire on a rim that is too narrow can cause the center portion of the tires tread to wear slightly faster than normal, similar to the wear you will get from running too much air pressure. Several people at FTW have been running the 315 BFG's on stock 7.5 inch wheels for several tens of thousands of miles without any problem.

Yes, 315's will work fine. Seen it many times. Even on NO lift with cranked bars. The valence has to be trimmed slightly with no lift.
CAN it rub? Of course it can. My 285's rub in certain conditions, but only when off road. |
