lugnut sizes on 1998 ford f150 wheels

Quick question:
What size of lugnuts are on the 1997 F150XLT with the alloy (chrome & silver) wheel 16 x 7, bolt pattern 5 x 135mm?? Is it the 12mm or the 14mm?? Help!

98's are 12mm. size changed to 14mm in 2000.

Thanks!! Any idea on where I can get a few sets of lug nuts to replace some i have. I heard something about a recall on the lug nuts on that style of truck and one set is really rusty.

Are you looking for stock washer style or acorn style? If you're looking for acorn style I still have an unused set from my old F150. If you're looking for the stock style then any dealership can get you the correct ones. Otherwise find some in a junkyard. I think the recall was only on some of the early 97 F150s, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

I had a 98 and it was on the recall list too. I would say your best bet is the dealer as if you try a junkyard, there is no guarantee that the owner did the recall.

I was informed awhile ago that the lug nuts should be replaced when i had my tires rotated at discount tire. I have had the truck for quite some time and didnt know anything about it till around last year. i never had the nuts replaced since i wasnt driving and havent driven the truck in awhile since then. How serious is this matter? The guy at discount tire sounded pretty adament about getting them changed. How much would they run me at the dealership??

I don't know how much it would be at the dealer, but I also don't know why the tire place would think they need replaced, unless they are th pre-recall lug nuts. I doubt the tire place would know this though. Just sort of sounds like how much can we get out of this guy. I would have the dealer check to see if this truck was part of the recall and it was done. Unless there is damage to the lug nuts, I don't know why they would need to be replaced.

Thats what I figured. I never got any official notice of any lug nut recall for my truck. I was just going by what the guy at the tire place told me. They might be the pre-recall lugs but still I was never notified by Ford Motor Company regarding the part recall whatsoever. Ive had other things replaced following notifcation and confirmation from Ford, but with this I didnt hear about it untill the tire guy brought it up. Although, he didnt try to sell me any new lugs or make any money off of me at the time. You still usually cant trust alot of these places.

I would check with the dealer then. Yours may not have been involved in the recall. They may have changed the lug nuts before yours was made.
