33-12.5-17 v 285
I have a 2001 f150 with the off road package and 265-70-17 stock tires. I want to upgrade to either a 285-70-17 or a 33-12.5-17. I was wondering what the difference is between them and if I went with the 33's would I have to trim and would they stick outside the fender. Thanks for any help.

The 285/70-17's work out to be approximately a 33x11.50-17. Both tires are the same height, the 33x12.50's are just an inch wider. Whether or not they stick out depends on what rim you use. Mount them on a 17x10 inch wheel and they will be about even with the edge of the fender flare. Go with a narrower wheel and they will be completely inside the fenderwells.

I'm going to keep the stock wheels so I assume those are 17 by 10? Which would keep it still under the flare.

No. Stock is 17" x 7.5". If you are going to keep the stock wheel then I would suggest the 285's.
|
Right, the OEM wheels are 17x7.5.

I've had the 285's on my truck for years, granted they are on 16" wheels, but they really fill out the fender wells well. Oh, and WAR EAGLE!

On my 98 I did the torsion bar lift approx 1" and put 305 70 16 on my stock rims. I had no rubbing problems, just poor gas mileage.
