Recalibration???

The Longtrails (235 60 16) are about shot so its time for some new tires. Good ones this time! I'm liking the revos or the rover rvxt's. When I asked my local salesman about upping to some 265 70 16's he said I would need to go to the dealership and have some recalibrating done to a couple things on the vehicle. Is this entirely true? It seems like some others are running that size on stock rims? Should I ask him to just put them on and don't worry about it?

Looks like I'll be sticking with the 255's then. Thank you very much for the input.

You don't have to have anything recalibrated but your speedometer/odometer will be off. I went fron 255/70-16's (30" tall) to 285/75-16's (33" tall) and have not recalibrated. My speedo is now off 5 mph at 60, but everything else works perfect.

If you upsize from 235/70R16 to 265/75R16 your speedometer will be off by 9%.

99's and newer require the computer to be reprogrammed to correct the speedometer, usually done at the dealer for $60-$100. This reprogramming also improves tranny shifting.
