285/70/17's
 

I have 265/70/R17's on my truck right now, they really suck, and give me a crappy ride,(aggressive tread).

I would like to put the 285/70/17's on my 2002 SCrew 4x4,
what would be a good all around year tire that would give me a good ride , alos I live in MN so we have snow,.

I have also been reading that I shouldn't have to do any mods. to fit the tires, but I would still like to get my front a little more level with the rear, not exact level because I pull a speed boat around too, and I dont want my front sticking wasy up in the air, HEH1 Question is, how much do you think I would have to crank up the torsion in the front, and would it be enough where I would have to have the front end realigned, and would it be enough where I would have to worry about it being hard on the rest of the front end.

Heres another one of my famous stupid questions.
How much taller are the 285's compared to 265's?

285/70-17's will fit with no problem. They are basically a 33x11.50-17 and the 265/70-17's are essentially a 32x10.50-17. You should be able to get an inch to 2 inches of lift by cranking the torsion bars up. You will need to have the front end aligned if you adjust them.

I JUST GOT 285/70/R17 BFG KO'S put on my truck yesterday. they fit fine with no problems. my question is what PSI should they be?

from what I gather, you should go according to what it says on your door jam. But it seems if their a little bigger than original equipment, maybe they need more.
I know how these shops are though, they blast em
up to the max.

Does one gain anything in height with the 285/70/17's compared to the 265's?

i gained a little. they are about an inch more in diameter than 265s.

Tirerack.com has those 285s for $182 each. Has anyone found them less expensive?

hows the ride with those BF A/T's?
Did you do something else to lift it abit, it looks like it sits abit higher than mine, for sure the front, my front is lower than the back, it drives me nuts looken at it.
Does the FX4 sit higher or something?

Let me first say that 100% of your ride issues have to do with what tire you have, not the 265/70R17 size. If you got a better tire even in your stock size, you'd be happy. Looks wise, I think 285/70 fills in the wheel well more, but tire selection is low. I have 285/70R17 and wish I had gotten the Revos again, even if I had to stay with the stock size.

You will probably want to run a higher pressure in your 285's if they are a different load range from your stock tires. I run 50 psi in my load range D MTR's.

I have a few pictures of my last truck right after I bought Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos. I plan to get them again or Yokohama Geolander AT Plus II next time.

I am just now looking to replace the tires on my 2001 F150 Screw King Ranch. It came with the KR 17 inch wheels. I have had BFG's in the past and loved them on the old Dodge. But now I want to get them for the KR. All the sites I looked at only have 265/70-17s listed for the KR. Anyone out there have a KR rim with BFG 285/70-17s on them? (No Mods) And also saw a few 285/60-17s, is there enough differane between a 285/60 and a 285/70 that you can tell? Thanks

Wakehead, that is my last truck with the stock 265/70R17 tires. I sold that one to my father in law. My new truck has the BFG 285/70R17 which I'll admitt look better, but still wish for the Revos.

Yes, there is a huge different between 285/60 and 285/70. Over 2" in diameter and 7% difference in circumfrence. I doubt any on-line site will have alternate sizes than stock listed for any vehicle. That doesn't mean they won't work, but a very smaller percentage of the population cares about changing tire size.

285/70R17 will fit fine on a stock 4x4 KR, same as all other 4x4 F-150's. Prepare for a little less performance (fuel mileage, acceleration, braking) .
