Rim scrape?

I have a 98' ext.cab STX. I put a set of "L" rims on and they look great. When backing up and turing hard left to park on a hill, the inside of front left rim scrapes on the lower control arm. Enough to leave peels of metal on the ground. Does anyone know of a fix?

have you done any suspension changes, like drop spindles or anything?
This is the first I have ever heard of Lightning wheels causing any problems.

No suspension change. "YET" I think it is the bolt that is in the "looking at" right side of the control arm. It appears to be holding a brake line. If that is the problem can it be moved or just taken off? Thanks

You are correct. It's the brake line bracket. You have to bend the bracket back and file down the sharp edges on the bracket, especially the corner edge which is pointed out. It's an easy fix. You need to check your rims to make sure they aren't gouged to a point of being unsafe.

I forgot to mention that you also need to change the bolt holding the backet on to a round head bolt.

Thanks alot!! I will change it to a round head. Thanks again

yea I had the same problem. You also want to relocate the brake line braket to the inside of the control arm . . . very easy to do.

Guys,

Are you all saying that Lightning 18" wheels will fit on out standard F150s?

Sure, a lot of people on this board have done the conversion.

Rich9svn 12-21-2000 02:30 PM

Yup but just watch out on the front left brake line thought other than that no problem!
