RABS trouble can't retrive trouble code
1997 F150 4.6L V8 auto.
ABS light came on and paid $85 for diag. I was told the sensor was bad. replace it twice and the light is still on. read postings on this site and found the 'code retriving procedure':
1) ig. sw at run (engin not on)
2) found the red to black/org wire harness. disconnect.
3) grounded the black/org end.. for few seconds and remove.
4) ABS light stays solid on .. not blinking at all.
tried 3 times with the same result.
at engine start, the ABS light will have one quick blink and stay on after that...
the red wire on that harness has 12VDC on it.. I used shorting jumper with aligator clips on both ends to be sure. jumper wire continuity reads good with a meter.. I located 2 fuses supply power to RABS system and they are ok.. I work on automation control system at work and I am vary sure that I have done this right...
questions:
(1) is it safe to say my break control module gone south ?
(2) I printed out a testing procedure to test the module, valves and sensor from a multi wire harness. except, I do not know where to look for this harness. any pictures.
(3) also where is this blessed module located ? and what does it look like ? any pictures
(4) if module is the problem, is dealership the only place sales it ?
thanks folks in advance ....

I'm having simlar problems. But the way I understand the test, you should jumper the BK/OG wire to ground and leave it connected and without removing the jumper read the codes. Yes you can drive without ABS it's just like driving an older truck that did not have ABS.
the abs module is under that big rounded dash panel that goes from the instrument cluster to the radio.
its in the middle on the top. you will have to pull radio and that trim piece that is below the guages and i think there is a srew behind the headlight switch also. to get the headlight switch out on 97s you have to pull the **** free turn it around backwards stick it back in and turn the **** to move the retainers to the side then it pulls right out.

thanks for the reply folks.
lechnereighty - did you manage to retrive the code ? I have left the jumper on for several minutes but the ABS light stays on solid. let me know if you retrive the code and how did you do it.. thanks.. I have been driving the truck as is without problem. On an open and wet road I did tried to break hard and as expected, my rear wheels locked up. It will be nice to get it fixed before hand it over to my boy next year...

JC101 No I did not retrieve a code. Light stayed on. I’m going to check the ohm reading on the sensors next. Some things that you can check if haven't already fuses 15 & 23 under dash and fuse 102 under hood. And check to see if brake lights work.
I guess we're now at the same place. John

JC101 After rereading your post. I believe that after you install a new sensor you have to clear the codes, you MAY be able to do that by disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes or it’s back to the dealer. John
try that too.. there are two ways to reset the code. one of the way (can't remember what that is off the top of my head) does not require the battery to be removed. but I done the battery thing too..
I had 2 new sensors installed but the same problem.. both sensors ressitance reads the same... 2000 ohms (I think)
what is the Symptom Chart some posting is talking about ?
could the module is dead so no code can be retrived ? hope not..

The last step of the system pre-check always includes clearing the keep alive memory (KAM). Turn off the ignition while the diagnostic connector C207 halves are separated as described in Diagnostic Trouble Codes, Retrieving. The diagnostic connector C207 should be re-assembled to provide KAM power to the anti-lock brake control module
