Question big ones or small ones?

I have a 97 supercab OFP, and it's time for tires. I want to put a phat set of rims, like at least 17 inch like I have. How come all meaty tires are put on 15 or 16 inch wheels, with limited chrome detail. I have seen Navi's and Expeditions with huge rims, but always street tires. Can't you get a mud tire and have the sweet big rims? Can anyone help?

No, I don't think that you can put muds or anything on big rims. Not completely sure, but I think that the biggest rims that you can get and still put offroad tires on them are 16.5. They aren't small, you shoulc try some of those.

Travis W,

BFG makes a new all terrain tire that will fit a 17" rim. Its not as meaty as a mudder but it still looks really sweet. Only problem is that it is a 12.5 x 37 x 17 and unless you plan on going to the sky with your lift you'll have to settle for a clean lookin 16" rim. Or you can look at some 16.5" rims as truckluver suggested. Weld makes alot of sweet lookin 16.5" rims that fit the beefy tire you're lookin for. I also wish that they would make more mud tread tires for 17's or 18's. Good luck guy. Later.

You can get a 32/11.50/17 Swamper SSR from 4wheelparts.com The SSR's are really agressive and they are one of the better mileage tires from Interco. I think Interco would be your best bet to get some 17" tires. Nobody that I know of makes a mud tire bigger for anything bigger than a 17" rim. Spargo2 has swampers in size 265/70/17 (not sure what model though) if I remember right he likes them alot. If you don't want a tire that agressive you could wait until they expand the Trxus line. Good luck finding something.

I'm looking at a magazine right now. BFG has their new A/T KO's in 265/70R17, and the Super Swamper SSR radial is available in that size also along w/ 32/11.5R17 (this is what Spargo2 has), and the skyjacker necessary 37/12.5R17. But for 18"+ wheels i don't think you'll ever find an offroad tire for them.

Thumbs up

Thanks for all of your replies. I'll let you know what I can find. Hopefully a sweet set of 17 inch wheels and some moderate beef on the tread. Thanks again.

Travis,

I'd chk out the Procomp MT's if I were you, I looked at them today - 33x12.50/17 same as a 305/70R17. Nice tread size, siped lugs in the middle two rows, and so far, all i have read about them has been good news. About 40 dollars more than a stock sized BFG AT here in Canada...

I think that is what I will be getting when the time comes.
