Mickey Thompson 33x12.50x17's
Hey all,
I thought I'd stop by and give everybody an update on the one of the new tire sizes finally available from Mickey Thompson. I didn't feel like buying new wheels, so over the weekend I installed a set of Mickey Thompson Baja HP 33x12.50x17's on the stock wheels of a 99 F-150 4x4 w/ the Off Road Package. (Susp: Hellwig Sway Bar/Rancho 9000's, no lift/no torsion adj.) Fit and finish these tires are perfect, no rubbing what so ever (took it offroad to play paintball this weekend, very impressed). The ride: Smooth on road The noise: Quiet, I dare say as quiet as stock OffRoad: Solid performer, handled loose dirt well and Mud pretty decent. Handling: Much stiffer w/ less oversteer (assuming because of the stiffer side wall and wider footprint). The Look: Gotta say, it looks great https://www.f150online.com/f150board/smile.gif I thought for sure there "may" be rubbing since I had the new bumper from the Ford Lightning installed earlier this year, but again, no problems whatsoever. Hopefully I can get some pictures by the end of the week (don't have a digital camera). Ray 99 F-150 5.4L 4x4 SuperCab 97 Mustang Cobra Conv. |
Can't wait to see your pictures. I'm looking into the same tires for my 2001 Supercrew. How wide are the factory 17" rims, and was there a problem with them at all in being too narrow? Also, where did you find them, online???

Factory wheels are 17x7.5 (Chrome ORP Wheels) and the minimum spec on the tires was an 8" width. We were only talkin half an inch, and I feel the stock wheel was the better choice to stick with, because of the lack of "Hub Centric" aftermarket wheels for the Fords. (I have seen lots of clearance problems w/ 33x12.50's on after market wheels - always requiring a lift of some type).
As far as getting the tires, I paid around $800 installed from America's Tire. It's a fair price and I've been waiting all summer for Mickey Thompson to release that size. For some reason, only a handful of manufacturers are making a decent sized tire for 17" Wheels. I can just imagine the wheel wells of a SuperCrew filled nicely w/ these tires. |
I have the MT Baja Belted HP. I have the 35x12.50x17 though on the stock rims. I run 25psi and it reduces the bounce and makes the tire look better on the rim. Here are some pics. They cost me 195 a peice. http://www.4tssinc.com/truck/tire.jpg

Thanks for the info and great pics Chris! I can't wait to see the ProComp's on your truck Slowguy. Anyone want to lend a digital camera?

Hey AirCobra,
Are those MTs radials? I hadn't heard of them in the 33x12.5x17 size so I just went with the new ProComps on my SuperCrews 17 inch 10 spokers. Looks great, I really like my stock rims on my Crew! The stock rims keep the tires under the fenders and looking great. I am very happy with the rims and the tires. I think the narrow rim width works in our favor to give it a cleaner look. Unless of course you like your tires to hang out, which some people do. In that case you are probably better going with a wider rim. I am gonna try and get a photo up also. ET |
Hey guys,
I was just looking at BFG's web page and they seem to have some 17" all-terrain tires. I don't like the looks of the MT's so I searched around. BFG is making the 35x12.5R17 and a 37x12.5R17. Any feelings about the clearance of a 35 or 37 on a stock 98 F-150 4x4. Lift kit is coming but that is a little ways down the road. |
