3 valve 5.4 liter - availability?

Sorry if this has been posted - I did a couple of searches and couldn't find anything (probably my fault...).

In any case, I'll be in the market for a new truck in the next 3-5 months, when we get rid of the wife's POS Dodge Durango (I inherited the last year of her lease when she got a new Mountaineer - funny how that happens...).

I had a 2001 Screw and loved it - it was the "base" 2wd with a 4.6. I'm thinking long and hard about a 2003, but this time with 4wd and the 5.4. I'm currently debating whether to lease or buy - the finance deals are very tempting. One thing that may tilt the scales is the availability of the 3-valve 5.4 (since I'm now convinced that the V6 Powerstroke is like Bigfoot - people often talk about it, some claim to have seen it, but everytime you lool for some solid evidence, it's just not there :( ;) ). If I could get a 3 valve in a 2003, I'd lean toward buying. If not, I'll lease for one more cycle.

Thanks in advance for any information...

It will be avaliable on the 2004 models.
Or you could move to Australia and get one now.

Yep, it won't be in this generation of F-150 from the factory. If you can wait, I'd check out the 2004. Even if you don't like it better, the discounts on the 2003 will be even more amazing than what is availible now.

Unfortunately, I'm screwed. The lease on our Durango (what a piece of manure, btw) is up in Feb or March, I think. I'll need a new truck then. Hopefully these nice incentives will still be around (I suspect that they will).

Thanks for the info...

Piston slap

I like this on the new 3-valve per cylinder engine..."The pistons have longer side skirts than in the past, which helps to control piston movement and minimize piston slap."

As already said not available until the 04's are out, unless you live in Austrailia. They apparently are installing them in something sold as a 'Falcon' there, this year. At least it gives it a little real time testing before we get them.
