235 vs 260 HP

I was at a F-150 rally the other day when someone asked what model 5.4 I had. I didn't know what he was talking about. He said that some 99 5.4 had engines that put out 235 HP and some that put out 260. I had only seen the 260 HP figure. Has anyone else heard about this? How would I determine what version I have?

Thanks.

i think the 97-99's had only 10 more hp than the 4.6's, which have 225 stock, so i think 235 is right. But i htink the newer ones have 260 or so.

All the 99's had 260 hp. That's when they introduced the PI heads. 97-98 had 235 hp.

The 1999 Super Duties got the older 5.4L (235hp).

Yea, i think it was the PI heads that made the difference.

Hi These figures are listed in my owner guide book.

My 99 F250LD 4.6L (a/t)..............235 HP**
F150.....4.6L.....................220 HP*
F150......5.4L....................250 HP
* All F150/F250 with manual tranny. **F250 with a/t 235HP@4400rpm

No axle ratios listed but my truck has 3.73 LS

Assuming book #s are correct. What was done to gain 15HP?

Could this engine have gotten the PI heads you guys are talking about now?

Maybe no one knows. I'm just curious.

TIA...Good luck...OT :)

4.6l has 220hp from 97-01. 02-present had 231 hp.
5.4l in the F150 was 235hp from 97-98. 99 and up has 260hp.
