Any 6.8L Triton V10 owners out there?
Just wondering how many other V10 owners are on this board and what your impressions of this engine are. Likes and dislikes?
I've had mine for about 2600 miles and like it alot so far. Mileage is hovering between 11 and 13 mpg and I have power to spare for the first time since I've ever been owning pickups in the past 15 years! :D Done a little bit of light towing and hauling and it performed great. Makes a nice low rumble when you hit the gas and accelerates great for a heavy pickup. Plus the V10 badge on the fenders looks great! |
I have the 6.8 pullin' a 30ft motorhome. Gets 9 mpg but moves the house good uphills and such. Much better powerplant than the 460 in my opinion.

Yep, there are a few of us here. :) I think you will generally see that the V10 owners all have about the same thing to say as you - mileage in the 11-13 mpg range (depending on driving), and enough power to get the job done. I know I have enjoyed mine for the 11.5K miles so far (except the ones taking me to work ;)). And like stephen said, your mpg WILL take a hit when doing any substantial towing. I think I got 8.5mpg on my most recent trip towing a 27' TT through the hills.

Been good to me. Plenty of power. I'm going to order another one when I get my next truck.

Y2K F-250 4x4 SD SC V-10 /auto here. I've hit as high as 15.7 MPG highway. This is the best truck I've ever used for plowing snow in 23 + years. The lack of power is not an issue here either. :D

Was is 2000 or 2001 and what were the previous ratings for the V10? |
I have had mine for a little over 50,000 miles. I LOVE THE V-10!!! Love, love, love!

I have 5.4 V8 in my F150, but my Dad has the V10 in his 02 F350 (extended cab 4x4, single axle). I had it last week on loan - I hit a deer and totalled the wife's car - I used it to trailer the car home, and used it all week to run around in. I REALLY like the V10. There was always tons of power on tap. Most trucks don't feel like they that have power unloaded that this truck did towing a 3200+ pound car on a tandem axle trailer.
As for mileage, I couldn't afford to fill it up and check it, but Dad reports it is consistently in the 12 mpg range. |
What felt quicker, the V10 or your 5.4l F150?

275hp/410ftlbs of torque

The V10, but that's just seat of the pants. It definatley seemed to through you back in your seat more. But with the trailer on, the V8 wouldn't hold a candle to it.
The trucks are also comparable - both have 8' beds and extended cabs, mine is a 4x4 ORP, and his is a 4x4 - I have 3.55 LS rear end, he has a 3.73 LS. |
Good info. Thanks guys!

This is a dumb question but I was just wondering if you knew the curb weight of your dad's V10 F350 unloaded? Thanks. |
