better ignition coils?
Which ones would be better to go with? MSD, Accel, sean hylands edis coils, or is there any others out there?
I've been leaning towards the accel for price, summit don't sell the msd ones anymore, where else can i pick them up? |
I'm not sure what your specifics are, but all the top fuel and other racers use MSD ignitions. I heard to avoid Jacobs.

I was going to put the Accel coils in my '98 4.6, but they were on 8+ week backorder. I went with the MSD coil packs instead. the MSD units have been trouble free, providing one smooth running engine. I am completely happy with the MSD coil packs. I bought my MSD coil packs from Mike T., Superchips guru.

I went with the ACCEL and had excellent results.
Sounds like a toss up between MSD and Accel. Rocks |
Mark me for the Accels, that's just becasue I have a set. If I would have known about the MSD's I might have bought them. I'm using the Accel packs and wires and truck runs great with no misfires and good throttle response.

Can anyone provide part numbers for either manufacturer?

Accel part# 140018
|
Thanks KYFordFreak. That's not a direct replacement for the individual coil packs on my 98 5.4l, or is it??
|
You cant go wrong with either.
|
No, that will not fit your 5.4 with COP ignition. To my knowledge there's nothing out there for them yet. Give it time someone will produce something if they haven't already.
The 140018 and the MSD we talk about fit the non-COP 4.6's. In tech terms they are a Ford EDIS 4 tower coil pack that fit many Ford/Mercury cars 89-present. To tell you the truth these newer DIS and the COP system will do a great job from the factory. Yes I did notice a slight throttle response increase but wouldn't do it again unless one of the OE packs went bad. |
if you want to stay stock...
but not pay ford...borg warner makes 'em...50+ at the zone
