Question engine exchange

Does anyone know approximately how much it would cost just to install a 5.4 in my 97 f150? It currently has a 4.6 v8 with 120,000 miles on it. Also, if i didnt change engines is there much that i can do to the 4.6 to bring up the hp? I currently have a 5 in. lift and 315/75r tires on it and its pretty slow, what can i do to help make it haul a$$. Last, how much would it cost me to have it rebuilt. Any help from you guys is very appreciated.
Thanks again, joel.

did you re-gear after installing the larger tires? as far as the engine, you could always do the basic bolt-on's followed by a blower, that should give you some nice power.

No i havent regeared, but im afraid i will lose a lot of mpg. Do you know how much it would cost me to get it geared, and how much mpg i would lose. Yea, a blower does sound nice and i might look into that after i get it rebuilt. Thanks again.

gears will usually run you about $500 for each axle. as far as mpg, it really depends on how you drive. believe it or not, after regearing my rearend from 3.08 to 3.73, my mpg went up a little. im guessing because the engine doesnt have to work as hard to get the tires moving.

As far as blower go, it seems that the 2 best are the Magnacharger and the ATI procharger. The ATI doesnt have as much off the line power as the Magna, because the magna is a roots and the ATI is a centrifugal. The ATI will be faster in the 1/4 mile, but if you do any off-roading, I would go with the Magna, so that you can always have that immediate power. The ATI makes more boost as RPMs raise. So when you at like 1k its probably making 1-2 lbs of boost, but at 5k its probably like 7lbs. The magan will always put out I believe 5. I'm no expert, this is just what I have learned so some ofthis may be false. Have fun.

After the engine rebuild, I think you should do in this order:

These are the big 3
1) Superchip from Mike T (if your gonna get a supercharger wait on the chip so it only has to be burned once) but this mods is great.
2) Intake (Air Force One)
3) Exhaust (Magnaflow Cat back)

Whatever order you want on these:
4) Underdrive pulleys (ASP)
5) Electric Fans (Derale)
6) Throttle Body, larger Fuel Injectors, 90mm MAS
7) JBA Headers
8) Blower

Thats all the bolt-ons I can think of. You would have a real fast truck. Starting with the 220hp and 290tq, you would probably be close to 400hp/450tq <-- Just an estimate (Flywheel #'s)

Good luck

Thanks again guys for all of your help. Yea, the tires are equivalent to 35's. What gears are on my truck right now? Also, does anyone know how much it would cost to have the engine rebuilt? Thanks again for all of your help.
