Post Amsoil Introduces Its 5w20 Motor Oil

from my april 15,2001 Amsoil Direct Line:

Due to increasing demand, Amsoil is introducing a new XL-7500 5w20 motor oil. It is formulated to surpass GF-3 and Ford specifications and will feature the API certification starburst when licensing is completed in a few months
I don't have an exact date of shipment to the wharehouses yet, but I'm sure it will be in the next month or so.

Of coarse when it is available to the public I will keep you up to date.

I really think it is important to have a synthetic with these new oil grades. I believe that they really complement each other as far as engine protection goes and engine performance.

I have been running Amsoil's 0w30 in my 97 F150 for over 1 year now. I have had the same oil in over 10,000 miles with 1 filter change last July.

Presently I am getting ready to put on the Dual Remote By-pass system. Hopefully this will ensure that my engine will last longer than I would ever hope to.

Question

Why would anyone run oil this thin? I never have and never will.

That could be true if it weren't for the fact that both are 5 weight when cold. It's not until they get hot that the "difference" comes into play.

NOTE that Amsoil has still not recieved the starburst certification. There was a long debate about this subject at ford-diesel.com a while back. Seems many of their products aren't "certified". Sorry, Amsoil prefers to use the word "licensed".

Question

This gets wilder & more crazier, the more i read.

Sometime wrong here. Ford "recommends" and "better" mpg. I didnt notice "required"
or 5/20 works like 5/30 I cant even keep up with all the changes Ford is making, not just on oil!

If you have had any experience with a F550 Superduty, would you use 5/20?

Something going on here that dosent make sense. Ummmmmmmmm?????

Unbelievable Sure hope someone from FORD reads this stuff, hey FORD, come on, we aint all stupid. Give me a break!!!! :O

Have a good one. OT

Well in this case you are wrong. For the Amsoil XL7500 Series they are certified.

Also so will the 5w20 when it comes since it will also be part of the XL7500 mile line.

You are right not all of Amsoils oil are Certified by the API, but the oil's do meet or exceed the specifications that are listed for that particular product!
If you check out the web page on the XL7500 you can even see the starburst on the container. As I am sitting right here now with a bottle in front of me it say's "Certified" for gasoline engines.

Hope this help take out some of the confusion

I don't really want to debate the issue, but according to your own post, certification (aka licensing) will not be achieved until "a few months". Since you are quoting info released 4/15/01 and today is 4/17/01 (where I'm at), I think someone needs to check the calendar for days vs weeks vs months.

Is that a quart of 5W20? If so, what organization "certified" it? Does it have the API starburst?

Seems like Amsoil has a very high opinion of Amsoil! The last I checked my owners manual states that it must have the API certification....

Here's the new scoop! And a link to my webpage where I sell the product! It meet or exceeds....

Looks like I painted myself into a box here!

I guess when the oil comes out we will see if it has the starburst. I don't know if that will be a few weeks or a few months. So only time will tell.

The bottle I had in front of me was 5w30 sorry for not stating it.

I don't see anything about an API certification, which according to my owners manual is a requirement of the oil used in my truck.

My manual also states that regular change intervals must be maintained regardless of any use of synthetic oils.

In my opinion recommending oils and/or change intervals that could void a persons warranty aren't good business practices.

It is supposed to be API CERTIFIEDwhen it comes out.

I ordered a case and when it gets here I will let you know if it has the donut and such on it.
It is part of the XL 7500 line, and they too are API certified.

got my case of 5w20 today. Looks like oil, smells like oil, tastes like oil, must be oil

The Bottle reads,
SAE 5w20
API Servie SJ, CF
compatible with petroleum and synthetic motor oils.
ESE-M2C153G JASO VTW WSS-M2C153H

"XL7500 provies exceptional protection over extended oil change intervals of up to 7500 miles or 6 months, which ever comes first.
