Cool

Timing, idle, and mixture are non-adjustable. The computer controls this; reprogram the computer.

Question

rocketir,

I've been having an idling problem since 5K. When I've taken it in they say it's just a characteristic of the engine (5.4) - no codes indicating problem. Thats fine but I shack in my seat when I stop at a light. Other identical trucks I've test driven from used car lots (probably lease returns) their engines purr like kittens. Was wondering if you could tell me more about this "idle air hose". Where would I find it? How would I know it was NG? Love my truck, but am frustrated with the rough idle.

Wink

Talked to a Ford teck today he said Idle speed IS adjustable but Ford wont let them do it while under warranty. It's in the computer programing. Good luck!

hey guys this might help..I have had this problem w/ my 99 5.4 ..It showed up after I did a tuneup and progressively got worse..started to scare me cuz there was obviously something wrong w/ my truck ..took it to the dealerguess what? unbalanced power..#7 coil was burned out as well as wire and #4 wire was starting to go as well..so if you got a bad plug coil or wire the truck will idle rough and shake you in your seat cuz not all cylinders are running properly. I hope this heps

If you guys read 36RACIN post on rough idle you will see that we have been through all of this. I can show you charts and graphs taken on injector fuel pressure, timing and compression readings, EGR tests all show within normal readings of ford specs. This is a problem that ford cannot fix. It does not show up in all 5.4 vehicles, but the ones that do have it will not be fixed. The only way to fix it is to file a claim with the DSB.Read your owners manual for information on the DISBUTE SETTLEMENT BOARD or you can beat your head against the wall and argue with ford and your dealership. IF you all file a case ford will wake up and try to resolve this problem. The choice is yours./ I have been there done that and WON!!!!!

Well it has been a few months since I have posted on this thread and I along with MikeInLA have beaten ford through the dispute settlement board. For two and a half years I have tried to convince ford I have a extremely rough idlier. They insisted it was a normal characteristic. They even offered me an extended warrenty. What will that do when they cannot and will not fix it. During my hearings with the DSB they asked if they could have a independent engineering specilist look at my truck. I replyed not a problem, his analysis was yes my truck does have a above the normal rough idle compared to others and is getting worse by the day. I am in the process of recieving a 100% buy back. Tax,license and accesories. This is due to the written work order I have from the dealer when I first reported this problem from day one. You must document your every move and conversation along with your legitimate verified problem.
