Wants to start but won't
 

Hi all. I'm new to the group. I purchased a 1997 F150 4x4 with a 5 speed and the 4.6V8 with the 6 in the Vin.

While driving the other day it just died. It would fire when I tried to restart it but wouldn't start. Eventually it did start and ran like crap and wouldn't idle at the lower RPM range. I ran the codes and got a 0500 & I replaced the Speed Sensor & still I have the same symptoms. It trys to start & eventually will be misses etc. & has no power. I also pulled the plugs and they are covered with a blac soot. I'm not sure what else to try anyone else have any ideas?

I would take a look at the idle air control valve.

I've since found out I'm not getting the 5 volts from the PCM to the Speed Sensor. I checked the output voltage from the PCM and its only putting out .04V so I'm thinking its in the PCM. However I will take a look at everything else prior to replacing it.
