Post Fuel Tank Capacity

I have a 98 regular cab 8' box truck. It is 4 wheel drive. I have the 4.6L. My question is how many gallons is the tank in my truck. The manual says that the only truck that gets the 30 gallon tank is the extended cab long bed. I just put 25 gallons in my truck and the light wasn't even on yet. My manual says I only have a 24.5 gallon tank. My gas guage needle was between E-1/4 of a tank. Is my gas guage off, or do I really have a 30 gallon tank and the manual is printed wrong. Anyone know for sure how many gallon tank I have?

Thanks

Chuck, I knew when I ordered my truck I wanted a Regular Cab. The only reason I considered getting the long bed was to get the 30 gallon tank.

Your manual is incorrect.

The 30 gallon tank is longer than the 25 gallon tank. The requirement for the 30 gallon tank is an 8 foot bed, regardless of cab. I think the deal is they don't want any part of the tank under the cab.

perhaps somehow you got the 30 gallon tank
or the gas pumps you used were uncalibrated and your getting the wrong readings on how much gas you pumped!

Thanks for letting me know this. I thought there was a 30 gallon tank but wasn't sure. That gives me a little begger range. I don't know about letting it get to 2 gallons left anyway. With gas prices 28 gallons of fuel doesn't go good on the pocket book. Raoul, when you fill your tank, when does the light come on? And when you fill it from the light, how many gallons do you put in it? Thanks

Exclamation

I said I 'considered' the long bed. I have the short, 25 gallon tank. I always get a receipt, jot my trip mileage on it and reset. The light came on at about the 360 mile mark, I filled up at 378.9, I squeezed in 21.164 gallons.

That's 17.9 MPG, had one snow day on this tank other than that pretty warm for February.

There is usually a little less than 4 gallons in it. I guess that is enough to protect the fuel pump.

As your tank is longer, you might need a little more in there to protect the pump than a 25 gal tank. Maybe this is why your light is so soon?

At any rate I would trust the light and assume no harm no foul unless you ignore it consistently.
