Question Engine difference

I have the 4.6L V8. I noticed whenever I look up oil filters, air filters, sparkplugs, etc. it asks if the 8th digit of the VIN code is a 6 or W. Whats the difference between these 2 4.6L V8's? The 8th digit for mine is a 6. I've heard that the 6 is rarer than the W.

I think one is a manufactured in Windsor and one in Romulus-my guess w=windsor. I looked this up one time due to a thread dealing with piston slap on this site-you might check it out. BTW-the Romulus (that it looks like you have) is not subject to the piston slap problem.

Cool

HI!... The WINDSOR and ROMEO 4.6's also have different valve covers. The bolt pattern on the valve covers is different. By the way the ROMEO 4.6's also have the PISTON SLAP problem. There are a lot of them around here.

I think I have the Windsor model. It says something about Windsor on the valve covers. How would I know if I have the problem? Is there a recall for the problem? If there is, how can I find out if mine is included?

W = Romeo
6 = Windsor
(Ford did this to throw you off the trail)

From what I understand, you won't have any doubt that you have piston slap. On a '97 I would guess that if you don't have it by now you shouldn't lose any sleep over it.
