Has anyone out there used any Royal Purple products - I heard that this stuff rocks... It's a little pricey but I am told it is worth.

I have 19,800 miles on RP with no oil-related issues.

I've not used it, but Hot Rod Magazine had an article on an engine build up and they were trying to get it to be a "torque monster". It was a Chevy motor, so didn't pay too much attention........ Anyway, they had done a bunch of dyno pulls and gotten some good numbers, then they poured in the RP. They claimed it increased both hp and torque. I don't recall the exact figures, but it was at least 10 points for each one......

Everyone I have spoken to say it rocks ! They claim it gives you about a 5HP rise. I am making he change it looks like?

A buddy of mine put it in his 2002 Firebird (I know...GM), and says it definitely increased hp. My truck has 9000 miles on it. Is it to late to switch, or my seals conditioned to the 5w-20 "real" stuff?

I am not sure, I just rolled over 56,000 and I was wondering the same thing. Anyone know if there are any mileage "restrictions" involved?

No there shouldn't be any restrictions on the mileage limit. I switched to Mobil 1 at about 100-120K, no problems here. You will want to flush the motor out or change it out after about 2-3K. I didn't flush but I ran the Mobil 1 for a regular 3000 or less the first two times and then I started going 3000-5000 before changes. You are talking higher $ stuff than Mobil so I would flush then run the new stuff. IMHO, if you are past the break-in period you can run synthetics.

I have the 5.4L engine and have been running 10W30. I believe the manual suggests 5W30. Does anyone use one or the other?

I recently put it in my truck...had motor changed at 35k and this new one sucks and knocks hard
the thinner oil makes it knock harder but I would agree there might be a better power output
I will be changing to a thick dino oil next because of the knocking but I recommend it to anybody with a good running truck

it cost me $4.50 a quart though :) wholesale cost (cousin owns a aftermarket truck shop)

I didn't identify 'which' RP I use in my earlier post. It is their #11(5W20) Synthetic Racing oil. It is $7.99/qt from Jegs. My 01 L makes no 'piston slap' noises, no 'marbles-in-the-can noises, and has no 'measureable' oil useage. I change it(and the filter) out at about every 5,000 miles--driving it daily and racing it almost every weekend.

I started using it at 4,000 mile on the odo. I d/k if it adds power or torque but mine puts out a good bit ;) .

They also make a non-racing oil that is about $3 or 4/qt.

Just add 12 ounces of zinc oxide to your oil & you will accomplish the same thing!

I dont know about Royal Purple, but i was told by some that synthetic oil can actually cause leaks in higher mileage vehicles. I was told that it keeps parts cleaner in the engine and becuase of this can strip away old varnish and such. It makes sense, but i don't have any experience with it. I switched to Mobil 1 Synthetic at 58,000, im at 97,000 now, and have not had any problems with it. I would guess that if you have a slow leak or seap that you might want to check into it. After switching to synthetics, and then to a Napa gold filter the truck starts in the morning and runs like it has been running for hours. Smooth as silk. I would swear by synthetics just from the way the engine sounds and runs.
I have always heard good things about RP and Amsoil, havent used either due to the price.
