WON'T CHARGE, NEED HELP

The passenger door was left ajar last nite but the truck started right up. After that the charging light came on. As the day wore on it became obvious that the truck was not charging. As I drove the voltage gage crept lower and lower until I lost everything. Just made it home. Put the charger on and the battery charged up nicely.
I have checked the fuses and can't find any bad ones.
Any help would be great. Dealers won't be open for two days and it cost a bundle just to plug it in to find out what is wrong.

The door being ajar is probably not related.

*IF* the GEM module is functioning properly, the battery would have been disconnected electronically. The GEM module will prevent discharge by disconnecting the battery if it senses a discharge (X amps) for (X time).

This usually happens in an hour or so.

Check all connections at the alternator and battery first.

Most likely, the voltage regulator or alternator itself has failed.

I did see what looked like a voltage regulator ion the firewall behind the battery but wasen't sure if these trucks still use them or if everything was regulated by the computer. All connections are tight. All fuses are good both under the dash and under the hood. Also checked the battery fuses and they have power to both sides. Guess I'll call tomorrow to see what a voltage regulator costs.
THANKS

I think the voltage reg. is internal in the alternator so it can't be bought separatly. I had this in an older F150--I bumped the alternator with the handle end of a hammer. Fixed it right up. Got it rebuilt at an alternator shop a month later.
