Question Hypertech detonation problem

Has anyone else had detonation problems with
a Hypertech chip? I've had it in for two days
,with the 160 degree thermostat. It starts hap
pening at half throttle somewhere around 3000
rpm. Is this going to happen until the computer gets resituated with the new program?
I love the power, but I'm afraid to use it with that scary rattling sound going on, sounds like the valves are trying to come out
of the heads. I am using the highest octane gas I can find(93)and it still does it. Should
I be worried? Should I take it out? Help me out here, Please????

Screamer, I briefly had a Hypertech chip in my truck 2 years ago and promptly sent it back for the same reason. I had pinging in my truck up until 1 month ago when I cleaned my MAF sensor and it disappeared. I first noticed it when I started testing the chip at full throttle. Normally I wasn't doing extended wide open runs so I may have had a problem before the chip, but it didn't seem as severe or consistent after removal. To be honest, I was glad to be rid of it once I realized that they program their chips to work only at wide open throttle and not the full rpm range. I tried a Jet chip after that and never made it out of the driveway due to a check engine light so it promptly went back. Many on this board rave about the Superchip. Apparently it works throughout the rpm range and beneficially changes the shifting patterns. If I could justify running premium at these fuel prices, I would consider one of these. The rest seem to be snake oil.

Smile

Well, It's yanked out and I feel much better for it. Taking it back to Autobone tomm.
for a fond farewell. May try a Superchip, but
I don't know now. I did clean my maf sensor
a week before I bought it so I guess it was a
bad chip. What really gets me is that I unhook
-ed my Shiftplus for that P.O.S.! now I can't
remember which wire went to each connector.

Talking

I really like it,it's made by B/M and changes
the firmness of the shifts on an automatic
trans. It has a rubber coated switch box that
is kind of big but it's worth it. It has two
different firmness levels and you can switch
it back to stock with the middle position of
the switch. The best part is the cost, only
about $40. only a two wire hookup and it feels like you put a shift kit in it.
Don't worry about your wires being different colors than the instructions, just
count the terminals and you'll be fine(hooks
up to the computer harness behind the battery
,it's pretty quick if you have small hands
but you'll probably end up taking out the bat. like I did) Have fun if you buy one!

Thumbs down

Yeah, It kind of sucks to pay that much for
one of these things. You would think that the
crappy ones would be out of business by now.
What's the use of this "power" if your
motor will self destruct if you really try to
use it! I live in Houston but I'm in Milwaukee right now, not exactly a hot climate. What's going to happen when I go home to 90 plus degrees and 90 plus humidity
? I've even used 104octane booster,to no avail. I'm going to call them or visit their
web site and see what they have to say about this. Thanks for the response.
