Cool 1999 F250 5.4L horsepower rating

Hi guys,

I just bought a used 1999 F250 "light duty" ext-cab. pickup with 15,400 miles and the 5.4L engine. Does anyone know the factory horsepower rating on this truck? The Chilton's manual says it's 235HP, but the owner's manual says 250Hp. The engine looks identical to my neighbor's 2000 F150 with the individual coil packs. I checked the vin # but it didn't really state the rating. Bare with me, I'm an ex-Chevy guy. Any ideas? Thanks.

1999 was a year of transition. Ford was making a small change to the intake, exhaust, and a few other small items (i think) to boost the hp from 235 to 260. (or 250).

At first, only the F150's and Expy's got the higher hp version, and the SuperDuty line got the lower hp (235) version..
The reason some truck lines get one vs the other probably has something to do with availability of the modified parts on the engine production line..

In late 99, even the SuperDutys were getting the updated hp version..

So, where does that leave you? Its my understanding that the 99 F250 Light Duty (looks like an F150), is built in the same place as the F150, so I would bet you have the 250 (or 260) hp version..

Its nice now in 2000, there's only 1 F250, the SuperDuty.. The F250 Light Duty was replaced by the F150 + 7700 package.

The 99 F150 5.4 is rated at 260hp...I think all of the 5.4's are rated the same in the F series line....

I'm hoping that my 1999 F250 light duty with the 5.4L is rated at 250hp like the manual says. But MSN's Carpoint lists it as 260hp. Maybe since mine is a C.A. truck, it lost 10hp due to the strict CA emissions??

Cool

I think this topic was just covered about a month ago, the outcome was: all light duty F-Series 5.4l had the 260hp version (not sure about CA models) and the superduty's had the 235hp version.

Barlitz,

I bought the truck used with 15K miles. My friend works at the Ford dealership so I believe I got a good deal: $24,200. $3000 below blue book. I love the truck except for the poor gas mileage: 11.0 city & 13 hwy & those dumb 7 lug wheels. What genius thought of those?

Jupiterak,
we basically have the same truck, although you,ve got the bigger tires.I'd love to put bigger tires on mine(LT 245/75/R16) is what I've got now,but I can'just barely fit in parking garages now.I'm surprised at your gas milage I got 23 mpg on the highway on a trip to Foxwoods.Your tires probably have something to do with that,I've also got a chip and that helps a little. Its a great truck real workhorse drives a little stiffer than a regular F150 because of beefed up rear end for heavier towing and hauling.I paid $26000 off showroom floor added about $1200 in mods,I did trade in a 99 lightning for it, sticker on F250 was about $32000. so I got a good deal. The chip should be your next investmant you'll definately appreciate it especially since you've got the exhaust and air done already. Good Luck and keep me posted.

Barlitz,

Damn 23mpg? I only lost about 1mpg when I switched over to the 17" rims. I'm really surprised at the poor gas mileage, hell my supercharged Chevy got better. I do alot of city driving though.
But I need to do a major tune up. I don't know how the previous owner maintained the truck. I've changed oil twice already (mobil 1 synthetic & Prolong). But next is the spark plugs, repacking bearings, trans filter and oil. By the way I called Ford and they wanted $52.00 for the trans filter and $28.00 for the gasket. Then going out and buying 10-15 quarts of synthetic oil?? Damn that's some major $$'s.
I'm definitly gonna get the Superchip, but I just got back from vacation. So funds are alittle sparse right now. But I did order the Rancho RSX shock's from Summit. But the rear's are on back order for about 10 days. I hate the factory shocks: way too bouncy.
I'm glad you got a great deal on the truck. I'm alittle jealous. Especially since you had that 99 Lightning.

P.S. If you're interested in buying another set of the Ford 7-lug wheels. On Ebay there's a guy selling them for $175.00.
The seller is: cvpriest
Ebay Auction: #353626180
This closes on June 13.

Jupiterak,
I checked out those rims they are the same one's I've got on my truck now, they actually look pretty good with the bright red clearcoat. But now you got me thinking about upgrading my tire size a little and changing my shocks for maybe an inch or two of height. How much did your tires increase the height of your truck? And will the Rancho's give you a slight lift too? Also I've only got 5000 miles on my truck so maybe my tires are worth something to someone even maybe trade towards new tires.
