2014 F150 5.0 surging/limp mode/ code P0720

Started having intermittent surging/limp mode issues from a stop (after driving for a while). Pulled over, restart and ran fine with no codes thrown. After the 4th time, took it in and the shop could not replicate the issue or find anything wrong.

Now it's getting worse, IF I get to second gear it runs perfectly normal. If not... within a couple feet, I can feel it go into limp mode and it feels like it loses most of it's power. Twice the wrench light has come on the display and the mileage line goes blank, mph gauge goes to 0 while moving. When the wrench comes on, it will throw a P-0720 code. Anyone else come across this? Thanks in advance

I have read other similar posts caused by bad electrical connections, bad grounds, recalls on the lead frame (2011-2013 I think). Just looking to see if anyone has had any of these issues on a 2014.

I don't recall of hearing of any issues in the F-150s but they pop up a lot in Dodge and some other brands. But it sounds like this might be a good place to start troubleshooting : "If an advanced scan tool is available, the OSS sensor signal can also be monitored while driving the vehicle."

Since you say that the problem starts after you've been driving it, I would also check on the Transmission fluid temp sensor. First find if your truck has one as part of the OSS sensor.

The lead frame was the culprit!

Could you explain it a little more? Thanks!

The P-0720 is the code for the output speed sensor. The lead frame has the output and input speed sensors and the temperature sensor mounted/wired to it. It is replaced as one unit when any of the 3 sensors go bad. The crappy part is that it was an active recall for the 2011-2013 and mine is an early 2014 so I got to pay up!

I, too, have a 2014 F-150 and this happened Saturday. Driving 70 down the interstate, big wrench on the display, speedometer drops to zero. Pushed it to neutral, pulled over, put in park, shut down, and recranked. All seemed well. Pulled the same code...P0720. Then, Sunday morning there was what appeared to be some "limpness" pulling away from a stop sign and going uphill.

So, were you able to obtain the part and replace yourself or did the complexity require dealership/mechanic?
