Change Converters When??
Would you/do you guys ever change catalytic converters as just normal, preventative maintenance, or do you let those suckers go until they go bad and start throwing codes??
old girl just hit 200K. Runs great. Gonna do a tune up and new O2 sensors (still running the original ones) and didn’t know if there was any value added.
Leaning towards no since stock replacement parts from RockAuto are gonna run ~$500.
Any other thoughts??
oh...and BTW...hi everyone and old friends?!?! I’ve been gone a while due to other hobbies and life.

There is zero benefit to replacing a functioning catalytic converter. Unless they fail, they should last the life of the vehicle. It's not like they every get "used up". Usually, they fail as a result of another failure, usually one that dumps to much unburned fuel into the exhaust. Misfires, vacuum leaks, and failed thermostats are the usual reasons.
