2001 4.6 swap to 2000 5.4

Have a 2001 4.6 that I’d like to swap completely for the 2000 5.4. I’ve searched the site finding many similar versions but none quite matching what I wanna do.
Can I do this swap pulling engine & Trani from 1 to the other completely to include swapping the PCM & maybe the ignition switch if needed to deal w/ darn PATS system issue.

Edit: going to use the 2001 4.6 body for the swap

Yes I’ve seen that thread but as for fit, when I pull the 00 will there be any issues putting engine & Trani into the 01 body. I intend to use the 00 wiring harness & computer as well.
What issues will there be since I’m not swapping parts here & there.

Nope, it's as plug and play as any 4.6 to 5.4 swap gets.

Swapping the ignition switch won't do anything for you. If you swap the PCM, it has to be reprogrammed to your keys. Your PCM should be fine with the 5.4, however, you may want to get a programmer and custom tunes.

Swapping the ignition switch lets the keys that are already programmed to the 5.4 pcm

No it doesn't. The keys are programmed to the PCM and swapping ignition switches or PATS transducers won't change that.

You don't have to swap the PCM or the ignition switch. Your PCM will operate the 5.4. If you use the 5.4 PCM, it will have to be reprogrammed by a locksmith or a dealer unless you use the 5.4 keys and lockset. The lockset is not the ignition switch, the ignition switch is down the steering column and is operated by a rod from the lockset.

You are getting technical on the ignition switch vs ignition lock cylinder (if you want to be technical) when about 50 percent of people refer to it as the ignition switch (even though its technically wrong) then state that swapping it the way they intended using both the keys and pcm from the 5.4 truck will work. Congratulations you have pointed out that they used the wrong technical term while confusing the situation.

Congratulations on making a one line post that doesn't make all that much sense.

Clayton351 04-10-2018 03:27 PM

Actually its 2 lines. But I guess I'm confusing you. I will simplify it for you.

95% of the time, if someone walks into the parts store and asks for an ignition switch, they are wanting a lock cylinder. Its word in common usage. You knew what they meant. You instead chose to go out of your way to tell them they were wrong, even though you knew that what they meant was correct, they just used the wrong term and it offended your grammar Nazi tendencies.

I was referring to post #5, not post #7.

Not a grammar Nazi, but post #5 was rather vague.
