Reman 2004 5.4 Sucking Oil

Reman 2004 5.4 Sucking Oil

We put in a reman in our 2004 5.4 F-150. It used no oil between changes and all of a sudden started using 1.5 qt. in 1000 miles (at about 20K miles). Mechanic seems to think it's the PCV valve. Question, what part of the PCV system could cause this. The orifice in the valve cover or the heated part of the system in that bolts onto the plenum ? If the valve cover is the problem, can it be removed and cleaned? It is not leaking any oil. I really don't want to have to replace the valve covers. Ford sells them as a set and they are costly. If anyone could explain how the 2004 system works, it may help. Thanks ! P.S. Engine is running fine, good power, no misses or codes.

Air is drawn into the crankcase through the passenger valve cover and into the intake through the fixed orifice in the driver side valve cover. I think there are baffles inside the driver valve cover to prevent oil from being sucked through the orifice.

So would the problem be the valve on the plenum stuck open ? As far as I know, it's the only valve, the valve covers just have orifices. Is that correct ? Thanks for the answer. If the orifice on the incoming valve cover is blocked, that could maybe also cause a problem ???? Is it possible to clean the orifices if the valve cover is removed ?

Can't remember who the reman manufacturer was, got the engine through Napa. Not sure if the fitting on the plenum is a valve or just a heater for the gases that come from the drivers side valve cover. It is on the end of the hose connects from the drivers side valve cover to the plenum; heater or valve (if it is a valve) bolted on the plenum with two bolts and has an electrical connection. What I'm wondering is if possibly the orifice in the pass side valve cover is blocked, causing the other side to suck the oil due to high vacuum in the engine block. This system is different than other PVC type systems, just looking for a possible cause and if it's a blocked orifice in the valve cover, can it be cleaned and blown out. Ford only sells valve covers in sets of two and they are expensive. Anyone know if the heater that bolts onto the plenum is also a PCV valve? We have spent thousands trying to get everything sorted out and would really love to just have the engine run right.

Thanks, that's a great price. I guess I still want to know if anyone has luck using Carb cleaner and blowing them out ?
