I'm looking at buying a 2004 F150 (Cheap) and it has a 5.4 with 269k miles. How long do the 5.4's last?

I know it depends on how it was taken care of and driven. It was out company survey truck so it was maintained and driven normal.

If it runs quietly, it may go for a while longer. If the valve train is making much noise, don't buy it unless you don't mind buying a new engine.
