how many rpm's at 60mph w/ ....
i'm the fortunate guy that got to pull his instrument cluster out to fix my stuck speedo. i had to take all the needles off to get to the speedo servo... or whatever it is. i think i was able to get most of my gauges dead on including the speedo, but i'm not sure if my tach is right. so if anyone knows that there gauges are accurate or haven't been tampered w/, could you tell me how many rpm's your running at 60mph in OD.
my truck has: 4.6 4R70W 3.55 17's w/ 265's that are about half worn i think i'm showing about 1900. i think it might be a little high. thanks |
I'm not sure if your 98 will display the digital values through your odometer otherwise you could check it that way. Use the search to find some old threads on the subject.

I have the same setup as you. I'll check on the way home tonight & reply tomorrow. BTW, why did you remove the FIPK? I was thinking of dropping one in in the next couple of weeks. Was there something about it that you didn't like? If I get a ticket checking rpm's for you, can I just send you the bill? LOL.:D

The results are in. My truck, traveling at 96.54 km/h (60 mph) is turning dead on 1700 rpm. Remember though, those are the Canadian METRIC rpm's. Don't forget to convert.;)
Hope that helps. I am curious though about your experience with the FIPK if you care to comment. I've read tons of posts on the subject, but every bit of info helps. Thanks--Jack. |
Try this website. Click on the lonk, then click on "RPM's Chart". It doesn't go to 65 yet, but it should help.

thanks for the info guys:)
as for the FIPK, here is my opinion backed w/ some facts to boot. the 1st biggest reason i dropped the FIPK was bc it killed my low end torque. the reason: sucking hot air from the engine compartment. granted i did have more top end, but w/ driving a vehicle that rarely sees the upper end of the tach makes the FIPK a bad investment for my driving habits. 2nd, it hurt my highway milage. the lack of torque lugged the engine and consequently caused the engine to have to operate w/ the throttle more open using more fuel. my airbox mod on the otherhand has the benifit of the FIPK and that of the stock set up. i simply removed the intake silencer and fabricated a piece of 3" pvc to go from the fender(cold air) to the remainder of the intake. i made the fit air tight using some glue and inner tube material to fill in any gaps. trust me, it can look good if you do it right. you should like the results. best of all it's dirt cheap! good luck. |
