I would think so... Someone squeezed a V10 in one..

How you get it to run or pass emissions?? That's another thing..

Good luck!

Not every state has emissions testing.

Technically, it's not a state thing.. There is still federal laws, but enforcing is another thing..

Technically it is up to different localities as to whether it applies in their area. The federal government hasn't made a country wide policy yet that applies to everyone.

All I know is in my state, with numerous coal burning power plants, a '99 F-150 w/ a 460 rolling around would be of little concern to anyone lol. Now, I've seen several build threads on here of people who have dropped a 6.8L V10 in their trucks with moderate success. Definitely not saying a 460 isn't a great motor, but you'd have much less trouble swapping in the V10. Best of luck on whichever route you take!

This is what I am referring to is all.. You are correct in that someone or some authority will still have to enforce it and if your specific local does not do that, who's really going to know? But, if you try to sell it that may open it up to interpretation...

No question, it would be kinda cool with a 460 in there... So are the V10's.. But, at least the V10's are closer to the original engine and electronics..

That wouldn't be worth the trouble to me, but I'd bet it could be done if you REALLY wanted to stuff it in there. Way too much custom work involves to make that work. Motor mounts, rearranging engine bay, new trans to go with motor, gigantic and numerous electrical headaches, etc. And you end up with something that barely performs better, if at all, and gets half the MPG.

It would be really cool though.

several 385 series motors in '97-'03 trucks have been done

the fact they aren't legal for on road use is the least of most of those owners concerns, same as transmission, exhaust, a/c etc issues than many newbies take for granted

I strongly urge the OP to feel free to use the search feature and read a few of the thousands of threads on this same topic

I think the custom work needed still would be easier that workin on a mod motor heater tube that's squeezed under the intake manifold
