Have a buddy looking at a 2006 5.4 Triton with 60K org. owner states he runs 5w 30 n 1 qt tranny fluid every 2500 miles.

What does the brain trust say? :bows:

My Buddy is looking at a used truck that the owner opening and proudly states since he bought it new at every 2500 mile oil change he adds a quart of tranny fluid to the oil to keep the tiny passages in the engine clean.

It's difficult to even type much less expect serious answers to a question I know the answer to!!

I'm surprised the thing even runs with the cylinders and internal parts washed of lubricity from lack of oil cling.

in the old days it was common to use that method for keeping engines clean. With the complex 3v engine buying it would be a risk. Who knows what that crap did to the engine.

Hey, who knows, maybe he discovered the perfect way to keep the 3V 5.4 squeaky clean and run for 300k miles. I'd love to see this guy keep the truck and see what happens, and I'd want to see it torn apart when it bites the dust. But would I buy it? Haaaaaiiiiiilllll no

Actually AutoRX is the best slow cleaner for the internals.

You can flush the block w/transmission fluid, but you don't leave it in there for that long. You bring it up to operating temp for a period of time, then drain it right away. At least that's the way I understood it.

I personally wouldn't use trans fluid for that tho. I'd use something proven, like that AutoRX stuff. Only one you can trust, once you get past the hype lol.

Thanks for all the replies, he has passed and the guy was kinda pissed that my buddy insinuated he likely damaged the engine long term, if not already.

Guy was insistent he does it in all his cars he's ever owned and none of them ever came back blown.
