1996 5.0 EGR pipe - Where do I find one?
Hello - I'm a newbie to the forum. My truck is a '96 with a 5.0 V8 with about 170K miles. It's had an exhaust tick under the hood for the two years I've owned it, but recently it got bad enough that I went looking for it. The pipe running from the bottom of the EGR valve down under the plenum somewhere has rusted through right in the middle of the corrugated part. I've looked everywhere for a good diagram of where this thing goes, as well as for a replacement, but none of what I've found looks like my truck...
Temporarily I got some metal-resin epoxy and just patched over it, but I know this won't last, and I would like to replace it so I can get the thing back to fully functioning...the check engine light has been on since I've owned it. Since it seems to run okay, I've never bothered with the light, but now I'm wondering if I got this cleared up if it would also fix the power loss I've just been attributing to 170K miles.
Can somebody steer me to a good exploded diagram, photos, youtube, or anything that will tell me where this pipe goes before I just tear into it on an exploratory basis? And where to find the replacement part?
Thanks

This is an improved/corrected version of the Ford exploded diagram, but it still doesn't show that tube:
The tube runs from the EGR valve to the middle R side of the lower intake. Have you checked parts stores or Ford? I've heard of people using flexible copper gas line successfully.

Here they are:
Have you ever read the codes to see why the CEL is on? ...but don't rush out & buy a bunch of parts whose names happen to be mentioned in the definitions.

Thanks Steve -
I'm going to double-check, but I'm pretty sure the tube on my engine has a couple of smaller tubes branching off it. I found a lot of this kind of thing at a place called PCI Inc (pciinc.com), and they have the one in your diagram, which says for my truck, but like I said mine has some small branches. The one in my truck looks pretty similar to what they have listed for a later model 4.6 V8. I know my truck is a '96...title, body style, etc. This is weird.
As for my temporary fix, it has quieted the exhaust tick, and my CEL is off, so far so good! I don't really notice much of a performance improvement, but I'm also kind of afraid to give it a good workout for fear of blowing my little patch off!
I don't want to leave it this way, I'd rather fix it right, so any more information would be welcome.
Thanks -

Yeah, '96 & some '94-95 have a DPFE which uses a small tube on each side of a restrictor inside the big EGR pipe. So yours is a rare one, but I'd still expect it to be available. Have you tried Ford, NAPA, O'Reilly, RockAuto.com, LMC Truck, JBG, TeamFordParts.com, etc.?
And I had a brain fart - you can't pull codes with a paperclip on '96-up. You need something like this (click it):

Haven't tried the dealer yet, I usually try to exhaust every other possible option before I go there...I know everybody's experiences are different, but mine with dealerships typically aren't satisfying.
Anyway, I've checked with the usual retail places, including the local NAPA, and the on-line sources you gave me (thanks). One of them had two options listed for the a.i.r. pipe, but no pics or mention of DPFE, so I couldn't tell if one was right or wrong. One of them was about twice the price of the other, so I expect that one to be the one I need! What's DPFE stand for anyway?
As for the codes, I thought I'd probably just go to Autozone and have them pull them. That'll work, won't it?
Thanks for the help...

Differential Pressure Feedback EGR sensor

Probably not. Zone employees are generally as qualified to sell auto parts as they are to flip burgers. The one EGR pipe shown on the '96 F150 5.0L Air Injection Pipe page is incorrect - it's not a DPFE tube; just an older EGR pipe.

RockAuto doesn't show what he's looking for anywhere that I've found.
