just to clear up the first post, the tundra has a 4.30 gear ratio.

thats why they are so quick off the line, plus the ~400hp.

not to mention when you add the TRD supercharger...

And the same for the jap trucks. give me an old ford 302 or 351 pushrod motor any day over these no torque untill 4000 rpm ohc motors.
Wow! First post and you dig up a 10 year old thread?

I just know what i'm talking about being a drag racer. I didn't dig up anything its just the truth. I didn't look it up on here. Ive done all kinds of mods on My car and I don't see any 4.8L puting only 187hp to the wheels. I don't know of any car or truck losing 88hp from the engine to the wheels. thats more like 4.6 numbers. I have a car putting out stock 310 to the wheels on the dyno n/a. and its a 5.7L now its over 400 to the wheels with just a cam and a few other mods. no supercharger. and stock heads. Now if i went with 5.3L head flow better than the 5.7L i would gain even more since all of GM v8s are now based of the ls1 and ls6 corvette engines.When i have my truck dynoed. I'm not expecting much more than 180 hp and 250 ftbls of troque. also your gear have alot to do with hp also like if you have 3.55s vs 3.73s you will make less hp on the dyno with the 3.73 gear set vs the 3.55 gear set.

Dude, you pulled up a ten year old thread to make an attempt at arguing that chevys are better? You might have just tried starting a new one.

Thats not what i was trying to do there buddy. I was making a point that ford should have stayed with the pushrod engines. but do to fuel milage the went with the ohc engines. I think if they would have done a little more R and D On the great pushrod engines that they offered like the 302 the power numbers would be better and more mpg freindly. I was just saying out of all the truck engines today. I still think that the pushrod engines are where its at and only one company offers that. I heard that ford is coming out with a new pushrod 302 bosting 400hp. hope they put it in the trucks.

The rule of thumb is 20-30 percent. It is more than reasonable to expect this loss through the drive line, it doesn't matter what full size RWD truck you drive. If you do the math on every truck it just about works out. i.e.

4.6L = 220hp*.20=44...220-44=178.....which is what the stock truck dynos at.
4.8L = 270hp*.20=54...270-54=224 (at 4000 RPM LOL)
With trucks it not so much about how much "peak" horsepower you make, its how much you get and how low you are when you get it.

Read a book sometime LOL
