How did this end? Looks and sounds identical to my hole in valve cover issue

I am dealing with what appears to be this same weird issue also.

2006 f150 150K 5.4 blew a hole out of the RF valve cover.

I could see where timing chain had etched marks on the piece it blew the hole out but engine still runs ok. Obviously I'm not driving it and caught it early.

Anyone know of this issue or how this one was resolved?

so this appears to be part of the timing chain guide, as my buddies tried to tell me. i feel better about ordering, and this is a question for the forum gods, but i was thinking i need this kit. Any advice?

The other thing is, since this is going to all be torn apart, any performance upgrades or more importantly maintenance things like belts, hoses, stuff that's going to be torn apart anyway.

Swapped the motor
 

Swapping out the timing chain assembly was the plan going into the shop. Once he got in there though, turns out the motor was in pretty bad shape anyways (not by any fault of mine). So in my case, I swapped the motor out. $3333.33 was the price of my bill.

Hey guys. Might have a familiar issue I have an 06 f150 5.4 triton. It's been having fuel and misfire issues and the other day I got under it and seen the timing chain cover had about a 2 1/2 inch hole in it right under the tensenior pulley(same shape). Any ideas? And what kind of problems would a hole in that area cause?? Thanks in advance...

That looks like its from the tension pulley.

We have the same issue and everyone is saying timing chain broke yet the truck starts and drives but runs rough....I will post pics lter but following this thread on the issue any advise would be awesome

You probably need a complete timing set. Chains, tensioners, guides, phasers, VCT solenoids, and a high volume oil pump.

Was that a used or rebuilt motor? $3333 sounds like you got a good deal for a motor and the labor.

What other kinds of problems did you find in the original motor?

Well obviously your timing chain isn't broken. But it probably either stretched or jumped one tooth and your valve timing is now incorrect and that's why the engine is running rough. Assuming that their aren't other problems, replacing the timing chain and the tensioners should fix that. But if you keep driving it the problem WILL get worse and will very likely damage the engine.

My son's 2004 F150 has over 200,000 miles on it and is leaking oil rapidly. We were told by our loyal mechanic shop that there was a hole in the timing chain cover and it would be $2,500 to repair it. I do not know where to turn next. I know nothing about engines. I do know the truck is not worth a $2500 repair. It runs a little rough but it runs. Is there a way to just weld the hole or cover so the oil does not leak everywhere?

Well the issue isn’t the hole. The issue is why the hole is there. The timing chain jumped and hit it and that’s where the expense come from. I replaced my motor for 3300. Parts labor n everything.
