cam phaser's fix
#1
#2
They have already changed the rollled pin to a solid pin but other than that there is not much else that could be changed on the phaser itself without completely changing the architecture of the VCT system. In the new 4V heads they are now using a cam torque method of controlling the variable valve timing from what I have read. The system on the 5.4L 3V relies on metered oil pressure which is prone to issues without really good maintenance.
If they would have made a split valve cover where we would only need to get the front half of it off to access the phasers this system wouldn't be so bad to work on at least, but of course they never expected all the failures ahead of time so we are just stuck with it for now.
