question on oil pressure guage install
When installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge on a 5.4 in what order will things happen on start up??
will the engine get the oil first or will the 6 feet of 1/8 tubing to the gauge need to be filled first ?? Will you rob oil from the engine on start up??
and what if 3/16 Braided line was used in place of 1/8 would the extra volume cause an problem??

Dude, you are waaaaaaaaaay overthinking this. You crank the truck and oil pressure will show almost instantly. The amount of oil in that line, even if it was 100' long, is so insignificant it's rediculous. Bleeding the line is something you can do, but not critical and won't affect your reading. It'll eventally bled itself out.
Stop sweating it and enjoy your gauge.

Galaxy lol ok......
camaro
Havent done it yet.... found my oil sensor leakin so I need to run get a new one before I start maybe tomorrow.. I have my 3 gauge pod in and the gauge wired and plumbed to the firewall but have not finished
not alot of room down there
My plan was to T off the oil filter housing to keep the factory dummy light and then run a -4 SS braided line to the firewall then switch to the nylon line to go up to the gauge ... I was going to use copper to the firewall but I have this -4 line sitting here with all the adaptors collecting dust

Like Galaxy said, the amount of oil in the line is insignificant. I've had them in my Mustangs (both 95's, the Cobra and the 87.) Oil pressure shows amlmost immediately. I've also used the plastic line and the copper. No issues with either. On the pushrod motors I disabled the electric gauge and ran mechanical. On the cobra I tee'd off the oil sensor line and ran a mech. No problems.

Got the T adaptor in today or I should say my bro in-law did (he's like my easy button .. ) there is not much room to get tools down there it took us (him) about 2 hours with him bitchin that I don't have any stubby wrenches
we just T'ed off the oil filter housing used a 90 to the oem sender and a reducer to a -4 fitting and ran the -4 line to the fire wall and swiched to the nylon to the gauge
pics in my profile under "Engine mods" of the T and parts used
Thanks Wade and Galaxy

you shoulda just Td off the factory sending unit spot. pluged the after market in one side and ur stocker in the other woulda saved you about an hour or so. there where i put mine works like a dream.
These motors have mad oil press because there single over head cam. ive seen mine get to 110PSI when it was cold out. normaly dont go under 40-50 PSI.
