What Oil do you use?

Hey everybody, just want to get an idea of what types and brands you guys are using for motor oil in your trucks. I recently bought my truck, so I haven't change my oil yet, but with my last truck I was running Royal Purple, and I am probably going to stick with it. I just want see what everyone is using before I decide to change mine.

I have been running Pennzoil Platinum full synthetic for the last 2 oil changes, and each time I ran it 7500 miles and it was still relatively clean when it came out, and a motorcraft filter.

That's the best for these engines IMO. The blend 5/20

OP I think most people on this forum run Motor Craft oil/filter in their truck. Many threads on this subject.

Yeah I did a search for some info on this before I posted. I didn't really see much, but I didn't spend a long time looking either.

I haven't heard good things about Pennzoil, and I would never run my truck even close to 7500 miles on the same oil, no matter what the life expectancy is on the oil or how clean it is. I will not usually go much over 3000 miles, but that's just me.

When I was running RP I made sure I was keeping the viscosity the same as what's recommended. I guess this thread is more for what brand.

Thanks, I will do some more searching.

Its probably a myth but several years ago I was fixing up an 86 Camaro I had.. bought it with a toast motor and pulled it tore it apart and it was filled with this gnarly nasty sludge.. My buddy who was helping me with it said thats probably from the previous owner using Pennzoil.. Just that was enough to convince me never to buy it again. who know if the sledge was from the guy just not changing the oil or whatever..
Haven't bought Pennzoil in nearly 20 years.. Could be ok. But the sight of that engine and my buddy saying that..

This is exactly what I have heard about Pennzoil, and why I won't use it.

When i bought my truck they changed the oil in it while we were doing the paper work. After they got done i walked out and the mechanic looked at me and said always run valvoline or motorcraft in these trucks. He pointed to three trucks and said they were all run with Pennzoil and they needed new motors (sludged up). So for the last 50k my truck has had nothing but MC or Valvoline 5w20 and MC Filter.

i have run mobil 1 extended performance oil and filter on my 04 4.2L heritage and my 08 4.2L. i go about 10k before changing it. been using mobil1 for 7yrs, EP for about 4yrs. my 08 i bought new so i ran motorcraft oil and filter and changed at 3k until the 9k mark, then ran the EP and i am at just under 51k now. and i will be changing my oil here in a day or 2 since its around 10k now. also my local garage uses pennzoil as their main brand and my family has never had problems. but honestly i would never touch Q or pennzoil unless its a car i am trying to kill. been using mobil1 since 2004 when i had my 96 trans am and noticed a difference in power, so i stuck with it. with EP i started out changing at 5k, then 7k then went to 10k. and i have gone up to 12k with it before.

Quaker State, Castrol (mostly) and that's about it. I may try Pennzoil but honestly it is not stocked around here on the shelves.

1997 4.6 178,000 miles valvoline 10w30 fl820s filter. I would use 5w30 in winter
if it wouldn't hurt anything but where i have used 10w for so long i don't know.
