TRY THIS: Throttle Calibration for EFI engine.. It works!

The Diamondbird Mod
Not sure if anyone has seen the posts by DRE23 within the "Throttle response 2009+" thread. Member DRE23 posted an interesting method to recalibrate the throttle on EFI engines, Apparently this method has been posted on other forums with great success. I was skeptical at first so I tried it on my Tacoma work truck and to my surprise, It actually made a difference.. So this morning I tried this method on my 2010 FX2 and no BS, It made a big difference in my throttle response, The front end of the truck actually raises up and the tires let loose when i punch the gas pedal. I did some research on other forums about this and the common consensus is that this resets the factory throttle setting and can be put back to factory by disconnecting the battery if need be.

Does anyone know how and why this works and how the heck someone figured this out? It's pretty cool and FREE!

TRY IT!

Throttle Calibration

Throttle calibration can substantially improve throttle responsiveness over "factory standard." Many people notice what appears to be sluggish throttle response or a "dead area" at initial accelerator depression. Throttle calibration can take care of these.

1) turn the key in the ON position (don't start the engine)
2) press the gas pedal down slowly all the way down
3) let go of the gas pedal fast so it come back up
4) turn key into the OFF position
repeat steps 1-4 two more times then start engine.

Most drivers notice an immediate change in throttle response, but depending on your driving style, you may need to repeat this procedure periodically due to the computer's adaptive programming. You likely need to repeat this procedure any time the battery is disconnected.

Thanks to DRE23 & Diamondbird for the info!

hmmm...might have to try that sometime. That is very interesting, I would also like to know how this works.

On your #4, I thought Dre said you have to release the gas pedal fast?

My bad, I will correct that.. I copy and pasted this off another forum but I did the quick release with both of my trucks and it worked so I guess that's the best method.

By performing this proceedure your reseting the values from the TPS in the pcm......and yes adaptive learning will adjust it to the way you drive.

Sounds easy enough and worth a shot.

Can you still do this if say you have a Gryphon and custom tunes?

Yes......but for us running programmers its best to put it back to stock and then reload the tune...that way all things that adaptively corrected by the pcm are reset.

Have you tied disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, then hooking it back up? This should reset the computer/TPS sensor and may help you out.

stevenminix 12-09-2010 07:57 PM

how long should it be disconnected? and should i just disconnect the neg terminal or both?

stevenminix 12-09-2010 07:59 PM

my truck will start and engine fires then it feels like a timing problem or like a bad fuel pump. it fires then chokes itself out. do u fellas think it was the tps recalibration i did or could it be a coincedence that maybe the fuel pump went? i thought if a fuel pump went that the engine would crank but not fire? could a fuel filter also cause this? it just seems odd that truck ran straight as an arrow then after this it is acting like it is???

Make a thread discussion your issue, don't clog this one up. I am going to try this later.
