Who to buy COPs from?

Should I buy them from uneek supply or global?

Bluejay 11-17-2010 10:17 AM

I think either is good. I got mine at Gobal without a problem. A few have had issues with returning a bad one to Global, but if I got a bad one, I wouldn't mess with trying to return it. I would just order a second set. With the price they are charging, would still be way ahead of the cost elsewhere.

gonzalez0041 11-17-2010 10:21 AM

what about quality of the product are they the same?

From what has been reported on here, yes, probably from the same factory. May even be from the same factory as the OEMs that go for $80 each at the dealer.

Can't help you much there other than to say that a lot of the members have bought from there and I have never heard a complaint. I plan on ordering front end parts from them.

You could buy the 10 pack that way if one fails you have spares. Otherwise save the good old ones just in case.

I would not buy from Global and here's the reason. I'm also stipulating this with the fact I may very well be an isolated case, but that's all it takes to lose a customer sometimes.

I had a stock/original one go out at 70,000ish miles. With the miles, I decided to buy a set of 8 from Global because of the price. I had one bad right out of the box! My first thought was "no way it's a bad brand new coil...must be something else" So off to the dealer I go to figure out why. I told them I'd spend a 1/2 hour labor for troubleshooting. They said it was a bad coil. I argued with them, and subsequently lost that argument and embarrased myself in front of the service manager thanks to Global, not to mention the money I'm now out. But, I recovered from that and pressed on.

Over the course of the next 15-20,000 miles, I had two more (for a totoal of three) new coils fail. I am currently running 5 Globals, and three of my old/original coils. I now keep two old/original coils in my truck for an emergency. I hate the fact that I feel the need to do this.

Here's where my disdain for Global comes in though. After the first failure, I simply pursued a replacement for that one. After a month of phone calls and e-mails, it literally took a paper mail (if you guys remember those) through certified mail with some strong languange, the contents of which containing the words lawyer and BBB, to get them to contact me. But by then, I decided to chock this whole experience up as a lesson learned.

My next set of coils will be from MSD, price be damned. My next coil that goes bad, I will replace all 8 from them.

That may be a bigger mistake. Get a V-10 set from Uneek next time.

Why is that? I've been using MSD products for 20+ years throughout my gearhead days.

That's what I did.
I'm glad I did get 10. I had a bad one right out of the box!
The rest seem to be working fine though. :)

Its possible to buy coils at much high prices and get bad ones or have them prematurely fail.. I bought the motoblue cops a few years ago one was bad right away and another has failed.. I dont have the time to screw around with warranty replacing bull crap through the internet and all.. I will buy 10 when I buy them from now on then I have 2 spares.. I actually have 7 old spares right now so I'm good for awhile..
I guarantee MSD has them fail out of the box probably at the same rate the Globals do. They cost 3-4 time as much and all. Guess they might honer there warranty so theres that..

I have also installed the globals in my truck with no problems from all 8... And i've ordered mc plugs from rockauto with no problems either...Good plugs, good coils, good luck.

No problems here, with Global coils. I've purchased quite a few sets and installed in two other trucks besides mine. I've never had a bad Global coil or have on go out prematurely.

People who have bad luck with them, - either it's their install being done wrong or sloppy. Possibly a bad one one out of the box, - NOBODY can get away from that. It's a electrical component, so that's always a possibility, yea, -right out of the box.
