1st Oil Change
 

I was wondering "when" should I get my first oil change on my 2010 Screw. It has 3,500 miles on it and I have heard from friends that you can wait till 5K since it is a new motor and the old method of 3,000 miles doesn't hold true anymore because of the better performing motors.

Can anybody shed some light to my question.

Unless you fall under the Special Operating Conditions

• Towing a trailer or carrying heavy loads
• Extensive idling and/or driving at low-speeds for long distances
• Driving in dusty conditions
• Off-road operation
• Use of E85 fuel 50% of the time or greater (flex fuel vehicles only)

Maximum Oil Change Interval
❑ Normal Schedule: 7,500 miles or 6 months, whichever occurs first.
❑ Special Operating Conditions: 5,000 miles, 6 months, or 200 hours of engine operation, whichever occurs first see appropriate schedule on page 42.

Personally, I do my first oil change early. The oil from the factory is just the standard Ford 5w20 synthetic blend that you can buy at Walmart. I like to get the first oil filter out sooner than 5000 miles because it will have additional assembly lube and perhaps additional wear metals in it from the initial break-in.

More importantly though, if your '10 is like my '09 (and many others I know about), get ready for a fight getting the first oil filter off! I recommend that you have a good end-cap wrench for it, and try to loosen it before bothering to drain the oil. You may want the dealer to deal with the first change.

Word. The dealer will also tell you to wait till 5k or when the oil life system tells you it's time.

Thanks everybody. I reviewed the paperwork and my driving conditions are normal. To work and back and the store and back so I wouldn't fall under the special conditions definition. Right now my meter says 45% oil life (OK). Thanks for all the speedy responses.

Just about everybody who lives in a big city & commutes in traffic falls under this condition.

On a factory built motor I don't stress early oil change as that's taken care of on the test run of the motor (from other companies, not sure on Ford but I'm sure it's the same).

Early oil change is good on aftermarket motors where there is a crap ton of assy lube, possibly shavings here and there (though unlikely if your builder is worth a ****) etc. For stock and new, I just follow mfg's recommended interval and use factory oil.

I change mine religiously at 3k no matter what. Castrol GTX and a motorcraft filter.
