A couple of weeks or even a couple of months is no problem and I don't think this has anything to do with your current problems whatsoever.

I went on a four month deployment and when I came back the truck fired up like I had been driving it every day. Never even noticed a hicup. When we go overseas for 2+ years and our cars are stored they say we have to put stabilizer in it.

gas without stabilizer lasts for many weeks (months perhaps). With stabilizer, a year is OK. You can certainly add it after a few weeks - just make sure it is mixed somehow.

No need to mix, it will form it's own layer on top
