Nope, - 5.4L's don't use coil packs, -never have.

kevin9073 04-25-2010 01:30 PM

ok wrong terminology! ignition coils!

jbrew 04-25-2010 02:08 PM

Are you yelling at me ? Looks like you need to learn capitalization as well. A capital letter begins a new sentence. :fyi:

kevin9073 04-25-2010 03:24 PM

No i am not yelling. I pulled a code p0356 ignition coil f primary or secondary circuit malfunction and i am just trying to figure out what coil it is.

jbrew 04-25-2010 03:38 PM

PO356 = Coil #6 , - the last # points to cylinder #. :thumbsup:

That would be the second cylinder from the front on the drivers side. Starting on the passenger side, the front cylinder is #1 and then the numbers go to the back of the engine. So the last cylinder on the same side is #4. Number 5 starts on the front of the drivers side and goes to #8 in the back. Since you have one COPS apparently going bad, you really need to consider replacing all of them. The best ones are found on Ebay. A set of 8 from Uneek or Global will cost you the same as one only from Ford. Lots of the guys here use them with great success.

2nd back drivers side. cylinder order is 1-4 pass side 5-8 drivers low numbers in front...

jbrew 04-25-2010 07:06 PM

Front facing down.

I think I finally figured out how the cylinders are numbered!

Dara1204 04-04-2023 12:18 PM

Ford cylinder numbers/letters for 5.4 Triton V8:
. (D) 4. 8. (H)
(C) 3. 7. (G)
(B) 2. 6. (F)
(A) 1. 5. (E)
. Front of vehicle
Tip: while viewing your engine codes with code reader the last number of the code refers to the corresponding cylinder as well as the letter. Example Error code:
P0356 Ignition Coil F primary/secondary......
The 6 and the F both refer to cylinder 6.
Hope that helps :)

Where were you 13 years ago? Looks like the question was answered then.

13 yrs ago, I didn't have my '01/5.4.
So, this benefits the lubricity of my 70+ mind, aside from my $20 brand-X shop manual. 😉

And, as the 2004 was a 3V, (EXCEPT, I think for the "Heritage" model,) do the 3V's and 2V's both use the same COPS? I can imagine this being so, but maybe not... TIA!
