replacing cop's
 

I have a 98 5.4 and a misfire on #3 - and I can't get the plug out. Can I replace my coils without replacing the spark plugs? Is it ok to just change the coil?

you can just change the COP but while you're there you might as well change the plug. Plus, if it's been misfiring for some time the plug might be fouled. The hard part is gettng the COP off, the plug is easy. use a compressor to blow out the hole before and during plug removal to keep any crud from falling down into the hole.

I ordered this Snap-on extra long socket

to reach down to the plug, but there are these 2 little chrome/aluminum looking pipe-type things running front to back and it is almost directly over the spark plug hole. How the heck am I supposed to get down to the plug? I guess I ordered the wrong socket, but it was recommended by somebody on here.

Any help on how I can get the plug out is be greatly appreciated.

I think your talking about your fuel rails. I did my plugs with them in place but a lot of guys remove the bolts and pop them out of the way for extra room. Be sure to put some oil around the o-rings before you pop it back into place.

Do a search and you should find a link to a full write up on how to go about installing your plugs. Follow it and you will be fine. Except don't use antiseize and some have chosen to torque the plugs to 28 foot pounds instead of the factory 14 foot pounds. Good Luck :thumbsup:.
