ticking noise on 5.4

i have a 2004 F-150 Fx4 and it seem like alot of them do it but it just drives me crazy when the trucks ideling its a constant tick tick tick tick i dont know were its coming from deffinitly not a rod or anything almost sound like a exaust leak but is coming from the top of the motor anyone know what im talking about

I'm betting it's the fuel injectors. Normal sound if it is.

ditto

Consistent ticking is the fuel injectors.
Enjoy your ride :)

Yep, injectors openning and closing. Normal.

you could have a valve ticking to these 5.4L v8's have over head cams and they'll do that if you don't have a block heater it's just dry start or you might even have a exaust manifold bolt that has worked loose or the gasket has dryrotted

It could also be the cam phasers.

probaly just injectors and normal. Cam phasers are described as a knocking sound. Listen to another 3v 5.4 to get a guage of if yours has an unusual tick.

The cam phaser noise is a knock and does not sound like a tick.
