2wd to 4wd conversion?
Hey guys, been wondering lately, Since i cant seem to find a reg cab flareside 4wd for sale in my area for a reasonable price, what would need to be swapped over to convert a 2wd to a 4wd, i have a complete 2000 donor (-) the motor just wondering what would need to be swapped, what mods i would have to make, If any to make everything fit...
Thanks in advance

Well, for starters (shooting from the hip) the entire front end would have to be swappet out...axle, control arms, any and all suspension components, etc. Crossmembers would have to be swapped. Transfer case would have to be added to the tranny and don't know how simple or complex that would be, but should be do-able. Interior items would need adding...4WD switch and all associated wiring. There's vacuum lines tha run to the front axle, so all those related components.
Having a donor truck improves your success factor by a magnitude of 10! Still quite the undertaking though. Can't say I think it's worth the effort.
No modifications should be required...if you have everything it should be really close to a bolt on job.
Don't know what your needs are but I've seen good set up 2WD trucks with the right tires/suspension/gears/rear end fo just about any darn where an average 4WD will go.

yea it was in a roll over so its basically only parts, Was just wondering, i think i have found a reg cab 4x4 flareside with box and door damage, but all parts come with it to fix, but, i Really do not want a 5 speed... so if it is, i might just let it pass by, unless its possible, and relatively straight forward to swap it to auto, yet again, all parts are avaliable, what would have to be done for that?? i know column, flood patched, but what else?

the front ends in the 4x4 is sooo easy to swap. i got a better plan thoe. how is the frame on the donor truck? just put your body on his frame and bam.
i was thinking of doing a 2wd to 4x4 too. i got a dana 44 soild axle and a Divorsed 205 Trasfer case. i wanted to skip the ISF all togther. but now im not going.
however here is what you should need. the donor trans and T-case. the front axle. torison bars. upper lower control arm. the CV stuff the coils the shock mounts. pretty much the whole front of the truck. strip your truck to the frame and put the stuff from the donor truck on. you will have to fab up torsion bar brackets on your frame rails. other than that i think every thing will just bolt swap and drop.
hope i helpd ya a lil bit.
