It finally blew!

Hey folks. Been a while! Well, I finally hurt my truck. The odometer broke about 20-40,000 miles ago, and I have 270,000 on the odometer, so I can't give you an accurate mileage. I finally blew a spark plug! It started ticking about 3 weeks ago, and it has gotten worse and worse. I was sitting in the truck idling, and it blew out. I was relieved that the ticking noise was only the plug, and not something serious. Well, I drove it home, and parked it. I fixed it today. It was an easy job. I just bought a new spark plug and COP and it screwed back in by hand! I snugged it down, and it runs like a champ. We'll see if it makes it another 300,000 miles. There weren't any peeled threads on the spark plug, so maybe it just unscrewed....

Well, it blew again, and this time there are NO threads left. I have been driving a semi, and I didn't have time to work on it, so I took it to my local mechanic. He said that he had done hundreds of these. He put a bushing of some kind in it, and now it runs fine. $82... That's cheaper than a timecert kit

I hope those 100's of bushings were in 100's of trucks, and not just a few! Time will tell won't it? Good luck on hitting the 300k

Hey Chester! How are ya? How is the plane?

They probably helicoiled it which doesn't always last but hope your luck holds out.

I bowed out of the rockwell airplane deal... Still looking for an airplane though!

He said that it wasn't a helicoil, it's some kind of bushing that a company makes just for that kind of problem. He said that he'd never had one fail, yet. We'll see I guess.

Thank you guys for the warm welcome.

Twice. I change them every 100,000 miles. But the last time, I had a local mechanic change them. That was about 90,000 miles ago. It's about time to change them again. Well... 7 of them anyway!

Chester, torque them down to 28 ft/lb dry, no antiseize. That will keep them from blowing out.
