4.6 Power

I have a 06 4.6 2x2 and i need some power. I have a cherry bomb dual and it sounds good but it cant even peel out. Some advice guys

JasonFX4 07-07-2009 04:51 PM

A lot of guys with 5.4s cant peel out so dont feel bad about that one. Besides, there's no sense abusing your new purchase like that. But you can get the standard stuff like a tune, CAI, true duals, and see what that does for you.

I have also noticed that it wont go over 95, how do i get the gov off. And that when im driving cruising going 70 and get on it there is a little rough shift. Only when im going around 70? What do you think?

Do yall think a edge would do good on a 4.6? Guys tell me that no matter what the truck wont be fast

i dont like the edge for the 04+ trucks. they have caused stupid issues with the drive by wire systems. and if you decide to get a cai then the edge wont be able to tune for it. i'd get a gryphon or sct or pretty much any reputable custom tune. they are more vehicle specific where the edge is for all the engines that came in that truck. anything can be made to go fast you just need the money. the tune alone will help out alot though. those stock tunes sucked IMO.
what do you mean a rough shift?

I would say that is a correct statement! Unless you have 10K burning a hole in your pocket.
And why would you need to go over 95? Are you trying to kill yourself?

The best mod you can do for your truck is a programmer, either an EDGE, Gryphon, or VMP tuned Xcal. Don't waste your time with the Super-Chips or Hypertechs. The programmers will be able to raise or eliminate the speed limiter and improve shifting so the truck actually moves when you want it to.

Next would be a full exhaust consisting of long tube headers, hi-flow cats, performance oriented mufflers, and an X-pipe...

...but you have to have way to get the air into your engine faster by either forced induction, lots 'o money, or a cold air intake, lots 'o money leftover.

Another good mod for speed would be a higher ring and pinion ratio. I'm guessing you either have a 3.55/3.73 open. You can either upgrade to a 4.10 or 4.30 set. A limited slip differential isn't required, but you'll want it from doing all those "one wheel peels".

You will need custom tunes to take full advantage of all these or else your just spending money making it sound good.

Matt when ever i drive it and i step on it going high speeds it doesnt do it as smoothly as it would going 50 or so. I am looking into getting cold air intake and a chip or a programer but i dont know whats the best out there.

Phil- sometimes other 4.6 wanna race.

For now im working on blacking everything out

Yeah,,,I figured that.
I was just messin with ya.
First thing we all want is to get rid of that dam top speed limiter.
Put some 4.10s in there and a good tune and you'll think you have a hole new truck. It will make a night and day difference.

turn off traction control... and torque management in the transmission.

BlackFord06 07-07-2009 07:14 PM

it doesnt have traction control i believe, i think only over drive. What is torque management with the transmission. Sorry guys im only 17

if it has all wheel ABS the computer will pull timing to control traction under a load like say trying to spin the tires doing a brake stand???

f150fella08 07-07-2009 11:48 PM

yea do a brake stand if you want it to spin tires, which is funny cuz my 2002 4.6 will spin tires when i put it in drive and put the accelerator to the floor, even with my 31" buckshots

f150fella08 07-07-2009 11:49 PM

and i agree, trucks arent ment to be raced, unless you have 10K burning a hole in your pocket :) burning tires only results in buying more tire, tickets, and more gas

BlackFord06 07-08-2009 02:53 PM

what do yall mean do a brake stand, when ever i hold my brake down and peel out when tire spins
