2004 F150 XLT 4.6L 4wd (new style)
I replaced a bad coil pack the other day. When removing the origional one it made the typical "pop" as the spring and rubber boot released from the spark plug. When installing the new one (Standard Ignition #FD503)I couldn't get the COP to "snap" onto the plug. I pushed it down the best I could, screwed it in place, and plugged in the two wire connector.
With these new style coil-on-plugs, the spark plugs are 5" deep in the heads with no way to see or feel if the part is installed right.

So....How do you know if you've installed a Coil-On-Plug correctly?

The truck runs fine...

You used dielectric grease? Motorcraft parts are best. Its working so you must have got it right..

 

You don't have coil packs on that engine

NOPE! - That's coil for a COP Ignition. COP = Coil Over Plug

Coil Packs were on the older 4.6L's. Packs are in charge of 4 or more cylinders.

You have dedicated coils = 1 per cylinder

Also - DG 508's will work fine. Their $9.50 apiece or $76 for a set of 8 on ebay. You got ripped!!!

 

That's what I thought it meant...a coil over EACH plug.
I bought the Standard Ignition at the local Allied Auto Parts Store (Southeast Mass).
Who makes DG? How's the quality for $10 bucks a piece? I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for, and I don't mind spending more to get it. To me quality parts will save you money in the long run. Well enough of me preaching.
But, I do agree with you- $70 bucks for one was more than I expected to spend, although- I've always had good luck with Standard Ignition parts.
These days they're probably all out-sourced parts made by the same company in Tokyo.

I believe in -you get what you pay for as well. BUT! Fortunately for us, that doesn't apply with coils. The more pricey the coils, the more problematic.

After you recieve a quick education, there's two places to get the good ones. Here's one -
