38's and REGEARing just the REAR gears on 4x4?

Here's my situation...
I am really wanting 38's on my 2002 Ford supercrew. (REALLY, REALLY WANTING THEM BADLY)
I know I must regear with 4.88 gears. (NO QUESTIONS there)
I have several other mods, I'm attempting to do ALL AT ONCE. (so there is a budget for PROJECT "JACKHAMMER")

My question for the forum is....

Can I just regear the REAR ONLY (for now) AND NOT USE THE FRONT (4X4 engaged) and still turn a new set of 38's without destroy my engine, tranny or anything else?

I am not planning to LOCK in 4x4. I just wanna TURN THOSE MEATY TOYO 38's when I add a body lift to my existing 6 inch suspension.

Please provide your feed back....

I am truly grateful for all the assistance that has been provide thus far through this site!:bows:

The best thing to do is unplug your wire harness from the back of the 4x4 switch so it won't inadvertently get thrown into 4x4.

You will be fine unless you engage the 4x4. If you do you will probably be screwed.

I ran mine that way for several months before doing the front axle. I just put some red electrical tape in a X over the switch so I couldn't put it into 4x4.

A 12mm 12 point is the bolt head size and shape.

Do I have to DISASSEMBLE the driveshaft? Or is this just a preventive measure...?

just remove it. Wont hurt anything and might take you a full 10 minutes, if you still have to get dressed. Peace of cake.

I'm with the rest on this... just remove the Driveline!

Cheers
